Asian Lady Beetle

I’m sure you are familiar with beetles. They come in all shapes, sizes, colours, and personalities! That’s right, even though almost all of them look similar, no two beetles are the same.

Some beetles can be beneficial to the environment, like the Asian Lady Beetle! Usually confused with the ladybug, these little fellows are recognizable by their reddish-orange or yellowish-orange colour, and size of 0.25 inches (0.635 cm).

Asian Lady Beetle

Asian Lady Beetles are beneficial for gardeners, because their diet consists of crop-damaging pests. They have no intention of eating your garden or farm, so you won’t have to worry about them being around your plants.

In your house, they may be a slight bother if you dislike bugs flying and crawling around, but they cannot transmit diseases, and don’t usually bite. However, if one does try to bite you or your pet, it won’t be venomous, and won’t even break skin. Their bites feel like a small pinch, and you can just use a leaf or tissue to transfer the beetle off of you afterwards.
